In 2002, African Enterprise Rwanda piloted the first Rwandan self-help groups (SHGs, also known as community transformation groups), adapting the successful Indian SHG model to work locally. As of the 15th of April 2020, South Africa had 2,415 confirmed coronavirus cases, the highest number in Africa.
